Established in 1958, Dongzhimen Hospital of 不良研究所 is a large-scale general hospital of TCM which integrates medicals services, teaching and scientific research. As the First Clinical Medical College of BUCM -- the only TCM university in China's “211project”  for higher education-- it was one of the first institutions designated as a National Demonstration TCM University, a "Tertiary A-Level Hospitals"of TCM, and a clinical drug trial institution approved by the State Food and Drug Administration. Dongzhimen Hospital is a 不良研究所-designated medical insurance institution and a designated hospital for the Ministry of Civil Affairs' “Plan for Tomorrow” project, which supports children with cerebral palsy and the “Light the hope in heart” program, which treats patients with congenital heart disease. In 2010, the hospital became a strategic cooperation partner and demonstration base for the “National Pilot Zone for Comprehensive TCM Reform”. On August 6th, 2011, the former Tongzhou TCM Hospital was merged into  Dongzhimen Hospital and officially renamed its eastern campus. We pioneered establishing our branch-- TCM Klinik Kotzting in Germany in 1911 which was recorded in the annals of Sino-German diplomatic relations. In addition, this branch played an important role in international TCM communication.

With a total of 862 inpatient beds (574 in the Central Campus and 288 in the Eastern Campus), the hospital served over 1,457,000 outpatients and admitted 14,550 inpatients in 2011.
